AAA predicts over 100 million people will travel 50+ miles from their homes between December 23rd and January 3rd. Known as the year-end holiday travel period, this latest estimate shows a 1.3% increase over last year and remains consistent with a seven year growth trend. 90% of those traveling during the 2015 holiday season will be doing so by car.
Increased traffic on the road means heightened caution is essential for preventing car accidents. Please refrain from drinking and driving, put your cellphone away, and practice safe and courteous driving habits to help keep yourself and everyone on the road injury-free.
In addition to driving sober and safe, take time to prepare your vehicle for longer trips. Get an oil change, have tire tread and pressure evaluated, make sure windshield wipers and all lights are in working order, and check the power of your battery before leaving for your trip. And remember, AAA suggests most road-side assistance calls involve keys being locked in a vehicle. It’s never a bad idea to travel with a spare.
